1993 American Bandstand
Yes, all you guys and gals, dudes and dolls, it's that time again for rockin' and rollin' and country swingin' - It's BANDSTAND right here LIVE on A Pack To Be Named Later! Each pack features 8, count 'em folks, EIGHT premium collector's cards with a shot at gold foil autographs and Dick Clark himself! Without further adieu, we cannot wait, let's bust this wax and not hes-i-tate!
Are you "Hooked on a Feeling" that you're going to hear "Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song?" Well, from our vantage point, we're getting "New Looks from an old Lover" and "I just can't help believing" there could be "no love at all" with good ol' BJ Thomas...
She may be a dancing star now, but back in the day, this short-haired cutie was all "paper roses" and part of a family-infused variety show. It's Marie Osmond...
It's hard to believe Ray Steven began his career with actual hit songs like "Everything is Beautiful" given the craziness of his off-beat hits like "Mississippi Squirrel Revival," "It's Me Again Margaret," and "The Streak" (which had nothing to do with a train, I learned later in life!)...
Well, if it isn't "Mr. Bojangles" in the flesh - The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band stops by for a cameo appearance on tonight's show. They first appeared in 1967 on the Bandstand, so it's nice to see them back again.
Bust out the champagne, turn down the lights, and grab that honey-from-the-holler - it's Lou Rawls! Start neckin' and we'll start things up with a little "You'll never find another love like mine..."
Oh, now here we go! Everyone cop a squat on the side of the dock... "Sitting on the dock of the bay" Otis Redding left this world much, much too soon in a tragic plane accident in 1967.
I know what you're thinking. But, believe it or not, "You should hear how she talks about you!" Believe me, Melissa Manchester knows how to tell you all about it.
This pack certainly enjoyed talking about the happenings of 1967. For in that year, the Bandstand celebrated 10 years on the air with ABC, first starting out locally in Philly then running wild nation-wide.
Thanks for tuning in! We'll put the stacks of wax way here in the back until next time! Meanwhile, keep your feet planted on the ground and keep reaching for the stars! (or something like that)
This actually looks like a fun set.
ReplyDeleteThis may sound horrible, but I remember watching American Bandstand during its final years in the late 80s.
ReplyDeleteIn the name of telling things we should have kept to ourselves, I was more of a "Solid Gold" and "Soul Train" person... What can I say?
ReplyDeleteOtis Redding automatically equals Hall of Fame.
