2009 O-Pee-Chee Baseball
Hot off the delivery van today we have the newest offering from Upper Deck. The inaugural release of the O-Pee-Chee brand baseball.
This is a 600 card base set with the obligatory memorabilia and autograph cards scattered at varying odds throughout the print run. One of the advertised and for me personally, anticipated, inserts was a parallel set based on the 1971 O-Pee-Chee design. Sadly, and I think for a fellow Canuck even more so, there is a bit of a problem with the parallel set.
Anyway, this isn't the time or place, APTBNL is about busting packs, so let's get to it.
Card #1
In all his #16 glory and bearing the card number 315 is Andre Ethier from the Los "Ang-a-lees" Dodgers. The backs of the base set are a light powder blue framing with black printing. What I like immensely is that the stats are upright. I know this is hardly a unique or ground-breaking but for some reason this one seems to work for me. Others in the past have tried to put too much in a small space, this seems to get it just right. See for yourself.
Moving on we have card #2;
RHP from the Cardinals, Chris Perez. I like the posed shots a great deal but thankfully the first pack I opened was an anomaly. All the cards were posed and I was worried they might all be like that. Needles to say I'm a bit of an idiot.
Next up, before I post this card I have to say to my fellow Canuck that I think this is going to be the replacement to the previously advertised and Topps-squashed parallel set. Sorry.
Card #479 features Orlando Cabrera in a nice leisurely workout. I posted the back to show the difference from the base set. I like the yellow tinge and the green instead of blue. Sadly, my disappointment is still alive. Thanks Upper Deck. Thanks Topps.
The next card speaks to the sub-set collector in me and hopefully each team is represented in kind. The Team Checklist cards look pretty sweet.
Card #5 in the pack belongs to......
Gritty Southpaw from The Bay Area, Barry Zito.....card #374
And we round out the pack with a Yankee.BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I like this set, I like these cards and I have a feeling I will be putting together a large number of packs to complete this puppy.
Go out and buy some wax, write up your breaks and join APTBNL. Let's make this project grow!!
Cheers,
omg i love these! how much per pack?
ReplyDeleteWow, these are great. Nice job Tunguska!
ReplyDeleteA 600-card set and six cards per pack? OPC doesn't look like a fun set to try to collect.
ReplyDeletei too will BOOOOOO the Yankees!!! Great site!!!
ReplyDeleteI think they are 36 packs per box though Paul, so that takes the sting out a *little* bit. Maybe.
