Back in November, I picked up three packs of these 2010 Archie McPhee Super Awesome trading cards for whopping sum of 25¢ at my local flea market. To be honest, they could have been packs of 1991 Donruss baseball. For that price... I was grabbing them.
Each pack contained ten cards that promised to feature 100% super awesome stuff. Let's find out if they were telling the truth. I'll rate each card on a scale of one to ten with one being super awful and ten being super awesome.
Awesome Rating = 3
Plague doctors are more weird than awesome.
Awesome Rating = 6
Hedge mazes are mildly cool. My personal favorite is the one featured in The Shining.
First off... how the heck do you pronounce this creature's name? I know these things are pretty popular, because I see them featured on t-shirts from time to time. Unfortunately... I don't know what they are or where they come from, so I'm force to give them a middle of the road rating.
Awesome Rating = 7
Last year I taught 7th Grade Social Studies and read up on the Roman catacombs. Gotta admit... it was pretty interesting.
Awesome Rating = 2
Monkey paws are weirder than plague doctors and aren't really awesome.
Awesome Rating = 7
Loved Greek mythology in high school... and Medusa falls into that category.
Awesome Rating = 10
Bacon is one of my favorite things to eat... and is most definitely super awesome.
Awesome Rating = 7
Zombies before The Walking Dead would have received a middle of the road rating. However the television show and comic book series gave it a nice bump in the ratings.
Awesome Rating = 5
I really enjoyed those Topps Mars Attack trading cards... but to be honest Martians by themselves are average at best.
Awesome Rating = 4
Had they specifically chosen the pink fairy armadillo, I would have given this card a higher rating. However... there are just too many animals out there that I find to be more awesome.
Overall... this pack had an average awesome rating of 5.6, which means I found it to be more awesome than not. Calling them Super Awesome is definitely a stretch... but I actually liked the concept of this set enough to seek out and buy more packs from their website.
I ended up opening a total of thirteen packs altogether and was able to build one set. If you're interested in seeing this set in its entirety... click here.
So what do you think? Super awful, super average, or super awesome?
I take the fifth.
ReplyDeleteNice set. Odd subjects but nice. OH Great now another cool Non-Sport set to add to the zillions I already want.
ReplyDeleteAs for that Cthulhu thing I don't know how to pronounce it (lets Google it ah found a youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkGqJqvWOUs)"Caa-Thoo-Lou" anywho it is a terrifying creature/deity created by H.P. Lovecraft. I don't know all the details but it is some scary stuff.
