Ah the start of a new card season. Spring training is right around the corner and the new baseball cards are here. I decided I'm not going to put together the base set through pack buying, but it's hard not to pick up a few packs to rip.
Here's McCutchen's last flagship card as a Pirate, maybe. The base design got a lot of heat, but in hand they don't look too bad. I like the borderless design, although this is the third year in a row they've done this kind of layout and maybe it's time to try something new.
Here are the backs. We only get 5 years of stats again, but luckily Cutch's social media handles get lots of room. Those will be important in 20 years I'm sure. Here's the rest of the base from the pack.
My insert for the pack was Kyle Schwarber's 83 insert. I love the 1983 design. If I had to pick a favorite set base just on layout, 1983 would be it. There are 100 cards to the set just in Series 1 so if Topps' continues this set over Series 2 and Update we'll have a insert set of 300 cards. Wow that's bigger than most of Panini's base sets.
Great card for Cutch and some nice young Braves there. I like the design as well and could agree more on the '83 throwbacks. They are nice cards. Good post!
