1991 Topps Toxic Crusaders

 

This is a pack of 1991 Topps Toxic Crusaders. Apparently, toxicity was a major issue in 1991/2 as Topps had this set and the Toxic High School sets during this time. This pack features stills from the animated series that was apparently a rip-off of "Toxic Avengers." I dunno, I just go by what I can find in my research, so... ymmv.

The wrapper is cello with the Toxic Crusaders insignia along with a big green dude hold what appears to be a mop. Man, the 90's were weird. 

The cards are standard 2x3 and feature an orange and yellow striped border that is then inset with a purple border meant to resemble spilled toxic waste as best as I can tell. The center of each card features a still from the TV show. At the bottom, we have the title of the card in white and the logo on the bottom left. There were 88 cards in the set.

First up, "The Crusaders Heed the Call!"

Next, we have the "Cycling Sicko." I have no idea if these are the "good guys" or the "bad guys..."

Welcome the "Canine Crusaders," who look nothing like canines to me...

The next card features "Bender's Foul Brew." I can only assume he is a bad guy. I mean, come on. The brew is called "Magoop 82." 

"Fender-Bender" shows the two-headed dude coming out of a doorway warning people to watch their heads. It's the attention to detail that brings the realism...

In "Psycho Blasts Off," I don't really see any blasting off. Is that the Bender dude behind the wheelchair? I really have no idea what's going on, but I assume they are about to launch the guy in the wheelchair. Probably couldn't show that kind of thing today...

Wow, "That Run-Down Feeling" features a little girl who actually appears to be a normal human. That's probably a ruse...

One of the character's names is actually TOXIE!? Wow. 

Each pack also features a hologram sticker. The sticker looks much better in person than what appears below, but hopefully you get the general gist.

And, the backs of the cards. In addition to a brief write-up about the scene featured on the front, there are planet-saving tips at the bottom. Well, kinda...
