2015 Panini Black Friday

I ended up getting 4 packs of Black Friday here's the best pack in my opinion. You can see the contents of all 4 packs on my blog Collector's Crack.

You get 3 cards per pack.  One of those cards is an ad card for Panini's new digital Football card app.

By far the best hit in my opinion.  Always nice getting a card you want to keep.

2015 Topps Opening Day

Greetings!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and got some good deals this weekend.  I'll put up another quick pack on the site this evening.  No one has put up a pack of Opening Day...until now!

How many more days until Opening Day 2016???
Seven cards in the pack, taken from a Target gravity-feeder box in one of those buy-a-pack-because-you-have-the-urge-to-buy-a-pack moments.  But hey, it's a buck.  Here's what I got:

Woo!  Complete borders!
#68 - Joe Mauer
#188 - Javier Baez
#152 - Ian Desmond

Same images as the flagship set, but there's no foil on the cards and you get the Opening Day logo.

#HTD-09 - George Springer
#127 - Francisco Cervelli
#37 - Chris Archer
#129 - Angel Pagan

Hit The Dirt cards come 1 in 5 packs.

I get that photoshopping is here to stay, but how about showing the player in their old uniform on the Opening Day set?  I'm taking a guess that ol' Francisco up above was photoshopped into Pittsburgh's uniform (since the write-up on the back mentioned that he was going to be the starting catcher in 2015 and he was with the Yankees all of 2014).  Since the set's geared towards the kiddies, it would give the grown up collector a reason to buy packs, besides looking for mascot cards.

Here's a couple of backs for you:

Well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad...
Anyway, that's the pack.  More later on.  Enjoy the rest of the weekend, and thanks for reading!

2015-16 Panini Prestige Basketball

I had to venture way out into the suburbs, but I finally found a Target shelf with new basketball cards on it. I don't know why in this one horse sports town (two if you count the Portland Timbers) it is so hard to find NBA stuff on the big box store shelves. I'm not wild about paying more than $3 for a pack of anything, so at $4.99 this will likely be the only pack of this stuff I buy this year.

77 - Eric Gordon - The design is foil heavy, which means scanners hate it. It would be a lot nicer if the Prestige logo was the foil and there was no weird foil polygon on these things.

52 - Jared Sullinger - The backs of the cards are a bit better, with an eye-catching design and a second photo making up (a bit) for the lack of stats. Sullinger is one of the younger players from the Eastern Conference that I don't get to see play a whole lot.

48 - Robert Covington - The Sixers are tanking for something like the fifth season in a row. I wonder how they're selling any tickets? There's been much buzz about Golden State's record tying 15-0 start, but has anyone noticed that the Sixers are 0-15? It might be fun to wager a little something on whether the Warriors will win more games than the 76ers lose this year.

43 - Derrick Williams - Williams is sort of a role player and hasn't done much this season, but his team has gone from a laughing stock to shoulder shrug so far this season. That's progress!

155 - Chris Bosh - As a huge fan of craft beer, or just beer in general, it was heartening to learn that Bosh is a bit of a beer nerd. Any fan of Dogfish Head knows what he's doing.

146 - Andre Drummond - Drummond is torching the stat sheets with his crazy rebound totals and spurts of offense early in this season.

 141 - Chandler Parsons

24 - Joakim Noah Prestige Pros - On to the inserts portion of the pack. I saw this picture from the SI Vault on Twitter the other day and...

31 - Pau Gasol Brilliant Beginnings - A couple of things here. #1 - Could the Grizzlies jerseys have looked any more generic and college-y when they first moved to Memphis? #2 - As everyone knows, Pau Gasol was sent to the Lakers in one of the most horrifyingly lop-sided looking trades in NBA history, with LA getting an All-Star for some roster flotsam and a couple of draft picks. As it turns out, one of that bunch of players too insignificant to mention on a ticker if he wasn't a blood relative ended up being a future All-Star of his own and one of the cornerstones of a playoff team. It's funny how that worked out for the Gasols, Pau and Marc.

238 - Jarell Martin - I'm guessing that rookies are a one-per-pack deal. Wikipedia tells me that Martin hasn't seen the court yet due to multiple injuries suffered since the Grizzlies drafted him.

- Panini Dunk! App Ad - I downloaded this a week or two ago after seeing some stuff about it on Twitter. It's pretty much a non-evil version of the Topps digital card apps, with more in common with Panini's virtual sticker album apps than the moneygrabbing Topps things. It's a perfectly fine time waster if you like virtual collecting. And basketball, of course.

2014-2015 Upper Deck Black Diamond

Wow I totally forgot I had this cued up.  Enjoy a pack of last year's Black Diamond.

2014 Panini Marvel Ultimate Spider-Man

Greetings...

Hope everyone had a great weekend and are ready for the Thanksgiving festivities.  Got a quick one for you all tonight, a sticker pack of 2014 Panini Marvel Ultimate Spider-Man!

The Easter Bunny put some packs of this in one of the boy's baskets this past year.  While they did have a fun time putting the stickers in the album, it didn't cause them to ask for more packs to try to complete the set.  Oh well.  Anyway, I grabbed one and scanned the stickers for the site.  Let's see what they got:

#20
#109
#S1
#156

There's no backs to scan. They just have the sticker number, Spider-Man logo, and legalese.  There's a poster in the middle of the album that you can take out and put those "S" stickers on.

#168
#S6
#150

There you go, short and sweet.  Here's a page from the album with one of the stickers:

As one would expect, the sticker album's full of bright colors and action pictures, perfect for little ones to stare at.

If anyone's wondering, the packs and album were found at Dollar Tree, and then of course the information was relayed to the Easter Bunny for the kids' baskets.

That's all for now...have a good week and thanks for reading!

1990 Topps Baseball Stickers

Here's a pack of stickers that I found in a recent repack box. I love putting together sticker albums, but I'm still working on a 1990 Panini album. The Topps stuff is going to have to wait for now.

264 - Bo Jackson - This one starts off with a bang, with a full-sized Bo Jackson sticker.

58 - Nolan Ryan Superstar Back - For a few years, Topps got the bright idea of putting another player and design on the sticker backing, making these things a little confusing for player and team collectors.

36 - Ken Dayley / 226 - Greg Briley - Lesser players got the half-sticker treatment as usual.

16 - Von Hayes Superstar Back

266 - Bret Saberhagen - I wonder if there were any Saberhagen jerseys in the house when the Royals won the World Series this year.

38 - Steve Sax Superstar Back

83 - Rob Thompson / 251 Steve Buechele

9 - Tim Wallach Superstar Back - Tim Wallach, Superstar.

60 - Kirk Gibson / 201 Teddy Higuera - Two very good players of the era.

57 - Mickey Tettleton Superstar Back - I'm not sure I ever remember Tettleton being considered a superstar.
