1994 Donruss Series 2 Hobby

Greetings!

Hope everyone is doing well.  I took a trip to the not-so-LCS and bought more packs and cards than usual to celebrate my pending end of unemployment.

The store has a big tub near the entrance that has loose packs - basically they took open boxes of packs that haven't been bought in a long while and tossed the packs in the tub.  For the last couple of years, I've parked myself in front of the tub and gone through packs to see if anything catches my eye.  Once while going through the tub I thought, "hey, I should see if there are packs here that need to be posted," so at that point I switched gears and that became the goal.  Here's the first of those LCS packs:

Nine and a half years ago, madding posted the retail version of this set.  He paid $.50 for his and got Juan-Gone on his pack.  I got pre-huge Barry Bonds on my pack for $.30 more.  Here's what I got:

#480 - Eric Anthony
#550 - Checklist

The Checklist celebrates Dave Winfield's 3000th hit.  The way he got hit #2999 was pretty interesting (the link has that hit as well).

#343 - Kirby Puckett
#521 - Tom Candiotti

Back to back Hall of Famers?  Nice.

#518 - Wilson Alvarez
#589 - Chris Nabholz

Could the Montreal Rays be a thing in a few years?  What happens to Youpi?

#500 - Rick Sutcliffe
#529 - Felix Jose

The Red Baron became one of my favorite pitchers during his tenure with the Cubs.

#490 - Shawon Dunston
#SE86 - Joe Carter

According to the pack, Donruss made a special edition 100-card set and inserted 1 per pack (50 per series).  We know why Carter made the set.

#418 - Dante Bichette
#453 - Chipper Jones
#431 - Scott Bullett

To my surprise, the Chipper is not considered to be a rookie card, even though he's listed as a Shortstop and has only played 8 games up to this point.

Here are some backs:

Even though they only show how they did in 1993, you're basically getting a second front, if that makes any sense.

So that's the pack.  There were 660 cards in the Donruss set; I assume there were 330 cards in each series.  Getting 3 HOFers in a 25 year old pack is pretty good in my book.  More later eventually, and thanks for reading!

Party Animal NBA TeenyMates Series 3 Blind Pack

Greetings...

Hope everyone's doing alright.  I got a job offer today, so assuming nothing goes wrong I will be starting on the 24th.  Took me long enough, right?

Now that that's out of the way, time to clear out the Scan folder some more.  The Warriors just ensured there'll be a game 6, but KD going down (again) is big time bad news for Golden State.  Props to the Raptors; they are playing way better than I'd thought they would.  Here's a NBA TeenyMates Series 3 Blind Pack!

I don't buy these things; based on when I scanned them, I think they were a throw-in from madding's 10th Anniversary Group break many moons ago.

In each blind pack you get a checklist, 2 puzzle pieces, and 2 random figures.  There's a figure for all 32 teams, as well as 4 rare figures, including a glow in the dark one.

Above you can see both sides of the checklist, which includes what the completed puzzle looks like.  Roberto Clemente or Warren Spahn it is not.

So which generic players did I get?

It's the Cleveland Cavalier and LA Clipper!  I'd like to think I got LeBron James, so awesome pack!

That's all I got.  I know it's not much (non-sports posts don't generate much traffic), but it's something.  Enjoy the rest of the Finals and thanks for reading!

2018 Leaf Draft

Perhaps this would have been more appropriate to post back in April, but another NFL Draft has come and gone. All we have left is a dollar store pack of college football prospects from last year. Thanks, Leaf!

31 - Josh Allen - I saw Allen play against the Oregon Ducks once and didn't really see what all the hype was about. He's starting for Buffalo now, though, for what it's worth.

49 - Riley Ferguson - Did I mention that these are unlicensed college cards? Ferguson plays for some sort of unidentified ghost team.

59 - Troy Fumagalli - Troy Polamalu he is not. This might be some sort of parallel as the coloring on the bottom of the card is different than the rest.

56 - Simmie Cobbs Jr. - Some sort of practice squad guy last year.

01 - Akrum Wadley - Fun fact: Wadley weighs 195 lbs. Okay, that's not really fun.

Here's a look at the back of the card. See? I wasn't lying.
