Recent WWE cards release with CM Punk on the cover and shiny stuff printed on it. The set is very well designed. The names are big and easily read and "spotlight" shine making the wrestler on the card very important.

41 - Kofi Kingston - BOOM! BOOM! Current one half of tag team champions. Remember when he was suppose to be the next main eventer few years ago?
55 - Rey Mysterio, Jr. - the little big man been out with a serious knee injury since August/September.

Here's the last of the crawlspace packs (for now). If I remember right, there was a bookstore in the mall that had a box of these; long after the movie was released, the packs were marked down to $.50 each, so I indulged. Here's some Star Trek: Insurrection cards!
These are the equivalent to the Topps Widevision cards made for the Star Wars movies. It was a 72 card set. Amongst the inserts are 19 Autograph cards ( packs) and 7 Gold cards 1:720 packs. Did I get an autograph? Of course not!

F. Murray Abraham played the baddie, pictured on the first card. For those who haven't seen the movie, Picard's crew comes to the defense of a planet whose inhabitants are kept young-looking due to the some sort of technobabble. The baddies want to kick the inhabitants off the planet so they can live there and be all young-looking too. I don't blame them, seeing how ugly they look now. Oh, the "Insurrection" in the title refers to the fact that Starfleet has ordered the Enterprise to evacuate the inhabitants, as the misguided Admiral had an agreement with the baddies. Thus Picard leads the "insurrection."
Surprising to me, the kid in the second card has been pretty busy, according to the IMDB. He has appeared in a bunch of TV shows as well as the Twilight movies. See, there IS an acting life after appearing in Star Trek!

The Soundbytes cards have a line from the movie on the back, relating to the scene on the front. Pretty boring. The Mission Log cards are a summary of the movie itself. The second card is a pic of Murray facing off against the guy from Hardcastle and McCormick.

There was a subset of cards featuring the races introduced in the movie. I don't remember where these folks popped up, probably during the fancy dinner scene.
The Relationships Insert cards were seeded 1:8 packs, so a bonus for me.

The latter cards in the set focused on the main characters. An example of the card backs show too much empty space. Compare this to the backs of the Soundbytes cards, where there is no image in the back and the movie quote takes up the whole back in large font.
Well, that's the pack. Got an insert at least. The cards, like the movie itself, were a disappointment for me. The movie would be fine for a two-partner during the show's run, but when it's movie time, you have to produce a better story.

This could be the first post of the year, why not? After spending a night out on New Year's Eve and (for this year anyway) the night after New Year's Eve, what comes to mind first? It's not overwhelming exhaustion because you're usually too tired to think about that. It's not about the one that got away because most of the time at parties like that, there's not much chance anyway. For me, at this point, there's one thing, filling up on greasy food at a late night stop. It can be chicken and waffles, breakfast omelets, milkshakes of enormous size (with fries for dipping), or what have you.
In the '90s, Denny's was a purveyor of a certain atmosphere of 2 am breakfasts, the grand slam, and packs of baseball cards included for a small addition (usually 59-79 cents) to the cost of the meal. Let's see what the 1995 edition looked like. The checklist was one card of one player from each team (only 28 in 1995).
Here's the wrapper. Ooh, a hologram. It's not just a card...it's a hologram. Does this mean that the player image can be projected into the subspace and becomes an illusion or does it mean it shines in strange colors when tilted?
It looks like Greg Maddux wins. The hologram on the left is actually kind of strange. When the card is tilted from left to right, Maddux has a smiley face and then a stern face. This must have been because of the strike and winning the Cy Young award. It's hard to reconcile those two emotions.
Well, I wasn't able to do a double post, but that does not matter as it's enough to get us past 200 posts for 2011, which is good enough for me! Hopefully we can get to 200 posts for 2012 as well, as I'm sure there are still many packs out there to open up.
I posted some Episode 1 Widevision cards yesterday. Nowhere on the package did it say it was Series 1. Is it a surprise that there was a Series 2?
Good thing there wasn't a Series 3; they can't fit a third character on the wrapper. This is still an 80 card set, with a couple of Chase Card subsets. Let's see what we get:

The front of the Watto card is a picture of Qui-Ron Jinn and Watto in his junkyard. While the Series 1 cards followed the movie plot, the backs of the Series 2 cards were more on general or behind the scenes information.

The first few cards in the set were reserved for the major characters in the movie (#1 was a Title Card). Again, the base cards from Series 1 followed the movie, so there were no base cards there dedicated to the characters.

The cards are glossy and follow the established Topps Widevision format. Series 1 had red borders while Series 2 has blue borders.

NHL Winter Classic coming up signaling spending Sunday afternoons on NBC watching hockey. Panini unleashes another year of Pinnacle with 8 cards in a pack. When it comes to Pinnacle the designs are usually hit or miss with good photography.
100 - Ville Leino - decent design on the front of the card since all the photo cards printed horizontally. The back have no stats, just talks about the player's highlights.
95 - Justin Williams - good shot of him trying get near the goal hoping to deflect a shot
198 - Criag Anderson - the tried behind the net shot of the goalie still works
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to New Year's festivities. For me, Christmas seems to come and go very quickly, but that's probably what happens when you have two little boys running around.

Earlier in the 1990's, Topps released the original trilogy in its Widevision format, and they were pretty popular if I remember correctly. They were released right in the middle of my collecting heyday, so I was all over those cards. The pain was finding the pages that held 6 cards per page.
This was an 80 card set, with 16 sticker cards and 10 foil insert cards. Let's see what we got:

The cards are glossy and the images are pretty sharp. The borders used followed the original trilogy's format. I would have preferred a whole-card image, but at least they are consistent.

The backs have a brief description of the scene on the front. They also have a second image with a quick summary of that scene as well. Again, the original trilogy set was set up the same way.

That's the pack. Not a bad set to try to complete. Too bad the pack I grabbed didn't have any inserts in it.
