2010 Topps Series 2 Hobby Edition

Greetings!

I don't really get the difference between Retail and Hobby Editions of cards.  I assume Hobby Editions are for the card stores and they have better chances of getting better inserts, and if so, too bad if you collect cards where there are no card stores.

Don't know how two loose packs of these wound up in the Target discount bin.  Since some contributors posted both the Retail and Hobby Editions of different sets, I thought I should upload this too, as it has not been posted yet.  Here's some 2010 Topps series 2...Hobby Edition!

The Babe scoffs at all the 2012 Topps posts!

I scanned this pack because The Babe is on it, as opposed to Dustin Pedroia.  There's 10 cards per pack, and there's a Hobby Edition logo on it.  Where did they come from?  How did they wind up in the Target discount bin?  Would I get a better insert?  Let's find out:

No # - Matt Holliday Topps Attax
#592 - Brian Roberts
#532 - Hunter Pence

There are several Topps base set packs on the site, so there's no need to go into details.

#502 - Jhoulys Chacin
#359 - Aramis Ramirez
#584 - Matt Capps (back)
#602 - Kansas City Royals Franchise History

Time for the inserts, and the Hobby Edition does not disappoint:

No # - Red Hot Rookies #4
#TR90 - Johan Santana
#CMT88 - Rickey Henderson (regular back)

Since there was still time to redeem the card, I did so online and purposely refrained from searching the interweb to see who #4 was.  When I got it, I was pleasantly surprised:

#RHR-4 - Mike Stanton (RC - front and back)

The card came in the top loader and looks very nice up close.  And it appears Mike Stanton has some upswing, as evidenced by the 3 for 5, 2 homer game I got to witness firsthand.  The last Cubs - Marlins tilt I got to see in person before this slaughter?  Game 6 of the 2003 Playoffs, and we all know what happened there.  I told the wifey no more Cubs - Marlins games.

Anyway, that's the pack.  Thanks for reading!

2011 Topps Chrome Value Pack

1993 Topps Football Series 1

Greetings!

Hope everyone enjoyed the Super Bowl, whether it's the game itself, the commercials, or Madonna's Halftime Show (hey, there could be a reader).

Found this pack at the LCS a while back for a buck.  Looks like the pack has "increased" in value, since the faded Rite Aid sticker appears to say $.69.  Hope I don't get jipped.  Here's some 1993 Topps Football!

The Cowboys won that year, beating the Bills (this was during the 4 consecutive appearance streak by Buffalo, with Buffalo losing all 4 contests.  That's gotta hurt...a lot).  Let's see what we got:

#64 - Dana Stubblefield (RC)
#23 - Eric Metcalf
#311 - Mark Wheeler

There were 660 cards in the set, 330 cards over two series.  The design mirrors the 1993 Topps baseball set.

#306 - Steve Wisniewski
#163 - Mark Schlereth
#234 - Keith Hamilton (back)

Showing the back of the Hamilton card; the front image is of him taking a breather with his helmet half off.  As you can assume, I'm not real big into football, so I can't tell you much of anything on the non-stars.

#111 - Jon Vaughn
#163 - Mark Schlereth (ToppsGold - back)
#236 - Kenneth Davis

Turns out I didn't have to scan the back of Keith's card.  Topps was still doing their ToppsGold thing, so I get a Schlereth sandwich (for the uninitiated, the card is the same on the front except the name, team, and Topps logo are gold...GOLD!!!).  The ToppsGold card came one per pack.

#197 - James Washington
#74 - Jim Arnold
#250 - Brett Favre

Love him or hate him, getting a 3rd year Favre card is pretty good.  Win for me!

169 - Rodney Peete
#162 - Pat Terrell
#233 - John Roper

The big rookies in this set are Drew Bledsoe, Michael Strahan, and Jermone Bettis.  At this point, Rodney's two years away from letting the wife bring home the bacon.

Anyway, that's the pack.  Getting the young Favre makes the pack worthwhile.  More later...thanks for reading!

2009 Goudey Baseball

Another pack from the re-pack box I picked up at Target. These cards of course try to emulate the classics of the 30s but with new players. 8 cards per pack. One nice bit about these and others like the Allen & Ginter is that the non-glossy stock allows for a nice autograph for those who seek autographs through the mail or by other means.

Hmm....let's look for those autographs...

Carlos Quentin - a member of the Chi-town White Sox here, let's see how he fairs as a Padre this year.

Victor "V-Mart" Martinez - an Indian here, now with the Tigers

Matt "Big Daddy" Holliday - a Cleveland Indian here and for only one year, now with the St. Louis Cardinals.

There he is, Chipper Jones...a regular in the packs I bust. Not a bad thing either and you've got to respect a guy who's been with the same club for almost a decade. This card has the Sport Kings look to it.

Kevin Kouzmanoff - a Padre here, just recently signed by the Kansas City Royals.

Bill Hall - seen here with the Milwaukee Brewers, signed with the Giants in 2011

Carlos Beltran - a member of the New York Mets in 2009, he's recently signed with the Cardinals. 6X All star and 1999 AL ROY are a few of Carlos' accomplishments.

Lastly, Denard Span - still with the Minnesota Twins

2006 Upper Deck Update

Greetings!

I did not want to interrupt the flurry of posts these last couple of weeks, so I have been laying low.  And after my run of non-sports packs, it's about time to get back to the old Target discount bin.  Here's a pack of 2006 Upper Deck Update!

As madding alluded to in his Series 2 post, this Update set pushes the set to 1250 cards!  1250 cards (insert Don West voice here)!!!!!  Let's see what we got:

#1022 - Jim Johnson (RC)
#1197 - Matt Stairs
#1160 - Rajai Davis (RC)

Rookie cards a-plenty here in this set, including cards for Dustrin Pedroia, Carlos Marmol, Adam Jones, Stephen Drew, and Chad Billingsley.  For some reason, the Pat Neshek rookie card is pretty valuable, at least to those who follow Beckett.

#1134 - Melky Cabrera (RC)
#1094 - Jeff Mathis (RC)
#1070 - Bob Wickman (back)

#SA-JH - Star Attractions:  Jeremy Hermida
#1239 - Derek Jeter (Checklist)

The Jeter's a short print (anyone know why?), so it's a pretty high-priced card in the Beckett.  Close enough to a hit for me!

Anyway, that's the pack.  Thanks for reading!
