2006-07 Power Play Hockey

Power Play is kind of like the poor man's version of Upper Deck's basic set. Or, if you would prefer, a rich man's Collector's Choice. I'm not sure if that is a good comparison or not but this set falls somewhere between Victory and MVP. It has all the same great photos as the other Upper Deck releases but throws in some of the "human" side of things with a large mix of non-action shots.

Retail versions (not sure if there were hobby versions) include 6 cards in every pack with a chance for a rookie card about 1:4 packs. Here is a sampling...

The prospect cards are all horizontal views with the team colors blended into the background.

The ultra-rare game used ice card. Oh, wait. That's just an anti-theft slug.

As you can see, they still fail in this product to match uniforms with team logos on the cards.

I have seen many of them in power packs boxes in my local Target card shelf. Actually I had my doubts about this set since, as you said, is the UD poor man of its hockey flagship, but they really look great and I really like the studio photos so I'm thinking of giving it a try.....!!!!
