It's all over the blogs. Seriously. 2018 Topps Heritage is everywhere. You can find blogger group breaks, bloggers' results and even some negative opinions on how Topps went about the set. We've even already opened a pack here for you. Since it's still the talk of the week, I figured why not also show the hanger box results.
These hadn't even hit the Target shelf yet. There were some boxes sitting open on the register at the card aisle. So, I looked and inside and found three hanger boxes and a few fat packs. Decided to pick them all up.
I remember some time before what I bought the hanger boxes there were five or more inserts in each box. I'm not sure if they've cut that number down across all sets, or just Heritage since it's the "set builder" set. Each hanger box came with two inserts and one SP.
The SP card in the box is located right in front of the two inserts.
The Buster Posey Chrome is #d/999.
The way that Topps seems to shove Aaron Judge down our collective throats, I expected to get three of his cards in the hanger box. It was just this one, though.
Since I've opened two, I'll show off the second one as well.
I like that this is a little bit like the old days because it's an early season release. Jay Bruce's short tenure with the Indians is preserved on cardboard.
In the last few days I've gone back and forth on whether I want to attempt to collate the set. It was never a "yes" until I had some in hand. Now I think I'm bad to know though. It's just too expensive to chase the SPs and all that when I'm not even a baseball fan anymore. I do want to collect the 2020 Heritage set and maybe the 2019 sets. Those are two of my favorite Topps designs. I think we're back to a "no" on this one. Hopefully 2019 and 2020 won't have the stupid nickname variations.
What are your thoughts on the set as a whole? Do you have Heritage-mania? Are you collating a set? Let us know your thought in the comments section.

1982 Donruss MASH

Today was a sad day for MASH tv show fans as David Ogden Stiers, better known as Major Charles Winchester III, passed away at the age of 75. His role fit really nicely into the show earning two Emmy nominations for his performance. Back in 1982, Donruss capitalized on the success of the show with this 66-card set. The complete checklist can be found here on The Trading Card Database. Surprisingly, this pack has gum...I thought Donruss and Fleer could print cards, just not with any gum in there. Or maybe that is just for baseball. Also, did you know that there were 125 million people watching the finale of MASH in 1983? It was that popular. Anyway, grab your favorite moonshine distilled alcohol and a box of MREs....let's slice this pack open.
I wonder how much this pack was back in the day? $0.25?
#4-Margaret (Major Houlihan): First card right out of the gate is the gum card. Here she is peaking out from behind this 36 year piece of sugary goodness.
#24-Col Potter: This is a legit card. One of the best characters from the series. Sadly we lost Harry Morgan back in 2011.
#10-Hawkeye(Alan Alda) - Alan won tons of awards for his role as Captain Pierce.
#26-BJ and Hawkeye - Two of the best!
#46-The odds were only 9% that I would get a card of David in this pack, but here we are.....RIP!
#44-Father Mulcahy - William Christopher appeared in all 11 seasons.
The backs are a puzzle image, but wait there's more. The puzzle requires 121 pieces...and each of these 121 pieces can be found with two different card fronts. So a master sets of MASH cards is 242 different cards. Crazy....
There you have it. I hope your week goes smoothly!

1992 MotorArt Iditarod Sled Dog Cards

Now that the 2018 Winter Olympics are wrapped up, the greatest winter sport on Earth can now step out of the shadows and shine. I'm talking the Iditarod Dog Sled Race. While mushing has been around for hundreds of years, it wasn't until 1973 that the Iditarod became an official sport/race (thanks Wikipedia). This year is Iditarod 46 where 67 racers will set off on the 1000-mile course to try and finish in front of the other 66 mushers. By the time this is posted, there will a little more than 24 hours until the race starts. Back in 1992, when everything was being printed on trading cards, MotorArt produced one of the several Iditarod sets that came out around this time. The complete 1992 MotorArt checklist can be found on The Trading Card Database. I know nothing about this sport, but I am willing to try anything. Grab something warm to drink and a box of Girl Scout cookies.....it's time to heat this pack up.
Dang, I wonder how many of these uncut sheets there are still left out there. The 1049 is the official race distance...1049 miles. How the heck did a Florida-based company win the contract to print these?
#7 Joe Runyan - Going strong at the beginning of the pack. Joe is a one-time winner of this race back in 1989...although Joe looks like he should be a tire carrier for NASCAR.
#9-O.B.: Millions of dog lovers just exploded from the cuteness. O.B.? It means Old Buddy.
#22-Vern Halter: He has earned $36,120 in Iditarod winnings (as of 1992).
#104-Rick Armstrong: This Ohio native now lives in Alaska...far away from hair-judging people.
#109-Joe Redington, Sr.: Coined "The Father of the Iditarod"...he definitely looks the part.
#77-Leaving Anchorage: 14 days of this actually sounds glorious!
#82-aka "At Least I'm Not Last, wait, what?": These three gents placed #48,#49,& #50 in 1992. You actually get $0.00 when you come in this far behind, but you do get a trading card. But I'd pay to be away from everyone for 14 days.
#98-Junior Dog Handler....aka, lunch. And the back is a checklist. Booo!!
#101-Ruby: Ruby, Ruby, Ruby....dangit...wrong sport. Actually, Ruby is the first checkpoint in the race.
Here is a sample of the backs:
There you have it. If I remember to check, I'll post the race winner here.

2018 Topps Heritage Baseball Hobby Pack

Ah, nothing like something new. Heritage might be my least favorite product simply because of the way it's packaged. I'm not talking about the wrapper or the box, but simply I think the product is way over priced for what you get per box. Each hobby box only guarantees one hit, either a relic or an auto, and it's most likely a relic. I can't really hate the design, it's classic Topps. The card stock is no where close to the original, but the set is fine. I like the large checklist and my team, the Brewers, even is pretty well represented in the set. I don't like the manufactured short print cards. But if you're lucky enough to find a hit there are a couple really cool inserts. I stopped by my LCS today and picked up a couple of packs of Heritage. I wish I could say I hit something, but both packs were pretty meh. And at $4.00 a pack this will most likely be all that I buy other than my team set. My apologies there is a lot of complaining above and I know we are here for the cards. Let's see what I got out of what I consider my best pack.
First up is Mr. DeGrom's base card. I did double check and I didn't have any SP's or variations in either pack.
I did snag a World Series card out of the base set. I always loved these cards.
My pack hit was this Andrew Benintendi Deckled edge insert.
