1991 Topps Robin Hood Prince of Thieves

Today, we bust open a pack of 1991 Topps Robin Hood Prince of Thieves movie cards. Each pack contains 8 cards and 1 sticker. The set contains 55 cards and 9 stickers. Each card front features a scene or character from the movie in the center. A red border surrounds the image. This border is inset with another border that looks like wood with a vine wrapped around it, thus making the border of these cards huge compared to the image. The lower portion of each card contains the movie's logo and card caption surrounded by a cream background and green border that represents more of the vine motif.

Our first card. He does not have six fingers:

I cannot help but think of "Men in Tights" when looking at anything Robin Hood related...

One of the best-looking cards in the bunch, here is the esteemed Morgan Freeman:
I was once an adventurer like you. Then I took an arrow to the...
Robin Hood starts his singing career. Up high or down low, he'll go wherever you may go...
Another Morgan Freeman card, before he played God, he prayed:
It all started with a small town girl, living in a lonely world...
No British accent needed...
We pulled the Morgan Freeman sticker! These look like rooks on a chess board:
The backs feature a yellowish background with green "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" lettering, pictures of the four main cast members in ovals, and a blue castle shape. Inside the castle, white lettering repeats the card caption from the front along with a summary of the image being depicted on the front. The card number appears in the left tower of the castle. At the bottom, copyright and set information finishes up the card:

Yes! So, for fun, I went back as far as I thought "reasonable," and looked to see if he had appeared on any other trading cards. While there are numerous movie "lobby cards" and other 4x6 and 8x10 images available, I would say none of these constitute trading cards. So, yes! The 1991 RHPOT set would be his rookie card appearance! :-) (It's a slow Friday, what can I say?)

Not to confuse matters, but For Robin Hood Prince of Thieves there are 2 nearly identical sets. This 55 card set and an 88 card "test" set. The company that held the license for the movie thought that an 88 card set was too big so it was reduced to 55 cards. The way to tell the difference is on the back where it says "Collect all 55 cards and 9 stickers" or "Collect all 88 cards and 9 stickers". The puzzle on the back of the stickers for the 55 set is the silhouette image of Robin Hood aiming his arrow, the stickers for the 88 card test set has an image of Kevin Costner. The packaging for both sets are nearly identical. I forget how to tell the difference.
