2002-2003 In The Game First Edition Hockey Retail

In 2002-2003 I was studying Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire...no time for Hockey cards then...or now, come to think of it. I didn't even know this product existed until yesterday when I came upon it at Target.

As often happens the glossy nature of the cards stuck them together like glue. So as you can see from the card scans some of the card front scraped off on the other card.

I know next to nothing about Hockey cards and so I guessing this might be like the First Pitch/First Edition version of baseball cards.

2009 Donruss Threads Retail Version

Mario's post on the eBay sales of the new Brett Favre as Purple Judas got me intrigued in the new Donruss Threads set and specifically the retail versions at Wal-Mart which would be the only place to find the card in question. I've never sold a card on eBay but if I pulled that Brett card it would be on the web in seconds.


They had a whole bunch of packs at Wally World today and so here is one of the packs I picked up:

2006 Press Pass Traks Retail Version

In my travels today I was over by the Kansas Speedway just outside of Kansas City, Kansas [or KCK, as we adopted Kansans call it]. It's an impressive stadium/race track but thankfully there was no race this weekend and traffic was light. So I had NASCAR on my mind when I came upon this pack in my box store's clearance rack.

Four cards only here and in my pack one was a sticker so only three base cards were included.

I believe this is my first [or possibly 2nd] football X-Fractor that I've ever pulled. I like the black border with the X-Fractor design.


I ended up pulling three rookies in one pack...I don't think it's supposed to work like that.

2009 Topps Heritage American Heroes Edition Retail Version

I completed the first Topps Heritage set [with the exception of the McCain/Obama '71 set election short prints] and so I've been looking forward to this. I think I will have to do this set pack by pack rather than a box. As the checklists have expanded I like that I'm pulling cards of Americans I've never heard of or at least don't know too much about.

2004 Topps Series 2

I dug this little gem out of a box of repack packs that I wasn't sure what to do with. Just 6 cards, so this should be short and sweet. Let's see what we've got...

368 - Sammy Sosa (Sosa struck out more than 2000 times in his career.)

436 - Alex Escobar (Kind of a strange choice of photos for a card. They really wanted to make sure they got the ball in the frame.)

PP8 - Martin Van Buren President Pastime (A former president and an abolitionist.)

2006 Upper Deck Series 2

2006 Upper Deck makes a lot of promises. There's "GREAT PRIZES" and the prospect of playing ball with Derek Jeter. Also, there's mention of the 1000 card set, which became far larger with the subsequent release of an update set. There's tons of this stuff in repack boxes these days, which is likely where this pack came from. It also has no barcode on the back, which is a clear indicator that it was originally from a blaster.

596 - Eli Marrero (I like the design of these cards. The small foil script name over the big block letters of the last name seems like a nice complement to the borderless design. I always liked Marrero, a backup catcher with the Cardinals who eventually developed some pop in his bat and became a bit of a utility guy.)

540 - Josh Beckett (Not my favorite guy. I've taken personal joy in the rather difficult season that Boston has had, though Beckett has certainly held up his end of the bargain.)

629 - Eric Bruntlett (It's the unassisted triple play guy. The thing that sticks out to me most about that play was that it was his own two errors that put the runners on in the first place.)

UD-JR - Jose Reyes UD Game Materials (Reyes has had, like most of his teammates, a rather unfortunate season. I seem to have a lot of success pulling relic cards from this set, even though I think every pack has been from some sort of repack thing. The back of the card does not specify what kind of material was utilitzed, however.)

794 - Noah Lowry

DD-81 - Al Kaline Diamond Debut (And a nice way to finish off the pack.)
