1993 CARDZ William Shatner's Tek World

What is Tek World exactly? Well, think of it as Star Trek meets T. J. Hooker. And that's not just my glib oversimplification. That is actually what Shatner was going for when he created the series.

Here is what the back side of the cards look like:

Without context these cards just serve as a time capsule of a semi-successful sci-fi series that never quite became Firefly.

Tek World was based on the "William Shatner" Tekwar sci-fi book series. These cards were made when there were only 2 or 3 of the books.

There was even a made for TV movie based on the books (with a short lived TV series that followed the moive) that stared Greg Evigan (BJ and the Bear, My Two Dads) as the lead character and of course Shatner as his boss.

TekWar / TekWorld is to science fiction (and cyberpunk in particular), as Keystone Light is to real beer. Filling, but not very flavorful and pretty watery.

They must have thought in the early Nineties that you could put anything on thin cardboard and people would buy it, including mediocre comic book art from a try-hard sci-fi property.
